Application Hosting
Successful businesses need reliable systems to provide the foundation for growth and new business opportunities. Business owners and managers alike must develop an infrastructure to support growth and demands of today’s economy.
Switching one’s focus to sustain your business structure can cause revenue-generating opportunities to slip through your fingers.
How can you balance the time and the money to build and maintain your business?
Outsourcing has become a staple of business in the current economy. Outsourcing business processes, such as CRM, groupware and e-mail, enables your team to focus on their core competencies and new business development.
If 60 percent of your time and resources are spent on generating revenue and 40 percent of your resources are spent on maintaining your business (maintaining servers, scheduling meetings, reporting expenses, tracking opportunities), imagine your business if you put 90 or 100 percent of your time and resources into driving your business.
How many times has an employee’s PC crashed along with the data and with no current backup or, become infected with a virus rendering the application(s) useless. Putting desktop applications on a secure well managed server, eliminates these local issues. If a PC fails, the user goes to another PC, logs-in and continues to work—the application software and the data are safely stored on the server.
What is application hosting?
In application hosting the software applications are installed on a server in a data center rather than on the desktop PC (and customer's server). The Remote Desktop Connection / Terminal Services program on the PC is used to turn the PC into what is essentially a terminal. You can even use an Apple Mac or Linux desktop to run hosted Microsoft Windows applications via Terminal Services.
What is the difference between a web application delivered over the internet and application hosting?
Web delivered applications utilize a web browser to interact with the application. A hosted application delivered by Terminal Services enables the user to interact with the application just as they would if it was installed on the PC.
What kind of applications can be hosted?
OnApps provides complete solutions for small and mid-size businesses. Microsoft Exchange and email are the most often hosted applications. However, virtually any Windows PC application (e.g. QuickBooks, Word, Excel) to be run from a server in OnApps’ data center with the PC at the client’s location. The application works just like it does when installed on the desktop, but all of the overhead including security, virus/spam protection, file storage, and backup is transferred from the user’s PC/server to OnApps’ high-performance servers.
Line-of-Business specific and support applications such as supply chain, construction, and logistics are also hosted. Applications hosted by OnApps include MAS90 (accounting), ACT (CRM), and Foundation (construction).
CRM applications such as ACT, Goldmine, and Microsoft Dynamics are ideal applications to host. CRM users are often in remote locations with limited IT support. OnApps Application Hosting enables users to work anywhere they have an internet connection.
What kind of applications can't be hosted?
Applications that require extensive screen refreshes such as high-end publishing, CAD, and animation do not lend themselves to the hosting model with most of the broadband connections now available. Contact OnApps for specific recommendations and advice.
